2022 Rainbow Scrap Challenge tops completed!

This year I decided to sew 9 patch blocks with the Rainbow Scrap Challenge.  I had other blocks I was also sewing, but after March I gave up.  I decided to sew at least 17 blocks of each color so I could make a big quilt.  I decided to only have rainbow colors, no gray, black or browns.   I had also sewed neutral 9 patch blocks to go with the rainbow blocks.  But once I laid out the quilt to sew it, I felt like it was just way too busy.   So I cut up some 5" neutral squares and it calmed things down.  I ended up sewing a bigger throw size and had plenty left over to make a baby quilt.

I will probably keep the bigger quilt and donate the little baby quilt.   My oldest likes the bigger one and you know how it goes when a family member likes a quilt top!

 Charity Quilts Finished

I have some happy news, the Circle of Stars quilt I donated to Cathy for Quilts for Kids was quilted and featured on her blog, Crazy by Design. https://cathyscrazybydesign.blogspot.com/2022/10/chasing-squirrels.html

It looked so great!  I like it so much more now that it is quilted.  Here is a picture of it:

Cathy had also quilted the little sister to this quilt, Rectangles (because I used up the scraps from it).  Here is that one:

I somehow like both of them so much better now that they are quilted.  I also got to finally donate some quilt tops.   I think we all have so much fabric and a wonderful hobby, it's always good to do good for others.  Share our blessings!

In the Circle of Stars quilt, I originally made it for husband, but it didn't exactly turn out like I thought it would.   It is really bright and colorful (which I love), but somehow I thought it was missing something.  I think since it was all made from a fat quarter bundle of tone on tone,  it is missing some visual texture.  Such a nit picky thing to say!  Or, it could be that since I really love scrappy quilts, I was missing the dorky homemade look that I am used to!  haha.

So I bought the cutest little Eco Pouches from Bonnie Hunter.   One of them was this cute little Patchwork Kitty pouch.   I really like it.  Then my middle daughter, Devaney saw it and challenged me to reproduce it and make one myself.  So I did!  Then the youngest said that the Quilt Block would make a great pillow.  So here is it is:

I finished my Rainbow Scrap Challenge Quilt from 2020 some time ago and it's been hanging up in my living room for a while.   I forgot to post about it.  This is the first Rainbow Scrap Challenge Quilt that I have done, and it happened during 2020, The year of Covid, but more hard hitting for me, was that in May of 2020, my mother fell and broke her knee and wrist (actually her dog ran into and knocked her over!).   It was a very difficult summer.  I had to move in with mom for 2 months while she was recovering in a wheel chair and later with a walker then a cane.   I vividly remember sewing these blocks together during June and July.  The good news of course, is that my mom made a complete recovery and fortunately, she lives very close to me in the same town, so I could go and see my husband and kids frequently during the time she was recovering.

I love the quilt now and I am happy that I finished it.  It is a pattern from Melissa Cory.  I think it's called Scraptastic Stars.

I thought I would post the 3 quilts that I finished for my nieces and nephew.  Sorry the pictures are not that good.

This is for my sister's new little baby girl, Evelyn:

This is for my 5 year old niece Malloy and her brother Reid who is 6:

It took over a year, but at last I finished Devaney's Graduation Quilt.   I started it when she graduated from High School, and finished it when she graduated from Massage Therapy School.   She was really excited about it and asked for a green border.   There are over 530 circles in the quilt!  It's a pattern from Laundry Basket Quilts.

For the Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2022, I am only doing two projects.  There are so many choices, but I think the narrowing down to two projects makes it seems like I can accomplish it.

My two projects are the Star and Crown Blocks and a Plus Fun Nine patch quilt from Jo's Country Junction.

I am making 17 nine patch block each month for the new colors.  I made 17 red nine patches and over did it with 20 aqua nine patches.
